Ken Witt Enters Race for House District 20

Colorado Springs, March 11, 2022

Ken Witt, Black Forest resident and Executive Director of Education reEnvisioned BOCES in Monument, announced his run for House District 20 after filing a candidate affidavit yesterday.

In a Facebook post on Feb 24, Rep. Tim Geitner (R-Colorado Springs) announced that he would not run for re-election to again represent Colorado House District 20, citing his desire to have more time for his family.

“I was contacted by a few people during the weekend after Geitner’s announced withdrawal, asking if I would consider running,” Ken Witt explained. “Among his many contributions to conservative legislative work in the Colorado House, Tim’s presence on the education committee has been very important as a strong voice for educational freedom for Colorado families. With my deep background in public education, I feel I am best qualified to continue and amplify work in the legislature to help ensure that families are in control of decisions regarding their children's health and education.”

“Our constitutionally guaranteed rights are being eroded daily by the present legislative majority, and while I highly value and will defend our second amendment rights, I am equally concerned about the attacks on our first amendment rights, including free speech, freedom of the press and the free exercise of religion, as well as the erosion of state and individual rights via federal overreach infringing on the tenth amendment.”

After successfully raising funds and winning election by comfortable margins to the board of education of one of the largest school districts in the state, Ken Witt led a conservative education reform majority on the Jeffco Board of Education. The majority was recalled after passing public education reforms that included merit pay for teachers, equalization of per-pupil funding for charter and neighborhood schools, and a substantial paring-down of the teachers union contract. The NEA went so far as to bring in out-of-state organizers to deal with the conservative board majority, fomenting the recall.

“My background is in technology, heading engineering in a public electronics company and serving as information security officer for two of the largest Colorado companies, including governance responsibilities on five continents. My personal career highs, however, have been the entrepreneurial times, heading technology and education startups.”

“HD20 needs an experienced, effective leader, with a history of innovation and driving change. I bring the experience to listen to what matters to the people of El Paso County and to work with others to get results. This is what it takes to make conservative gains in this legislature. Despite a late campaign entry, I am confident El Paso county voters will recognize the leadership I can bring in representing them in the legislature.”

According to the campaign website, Witt’s motivation for running centers on his “desire to leave to my children and grandchildren a Colorado that respects their rights and in which they can afford to live”, and his aim is “to win this fight for responsible fiscal policy to lower taxes, prices at the pump and the grocery store, to reverse this unbearable government burden on small businesses, and to make sure that families are in control of their children's health and education.”
